Arts For Good Foundation - Poetry Commission

These poems were donated to the Arts for Good Foundation. They wanted 'a deck of beautiful poems that could inspire our younger generations with the beauty of art, the power of art and power of stories in the landscape...of Hong Kong...'. I wrote it with inspiration from Exhibition: Joan Miro The Poetry of Everyday Life (HKMOA Exhibition).

In The Everyday

As life speeds past us, as we speed through
What moments of glory do we overlook?

In the constant moving, doing and being
What stillness would we capture if we stilled to look?

If we take a moment
Live out our days
As life speeds past us
Go at our own pace

We’ll find that art is etched on our face,
That there is immense beauty, in the everyday.

Shards of Hope

Brokenness is not the end
Hope, is in scattered shards
Love, in healing scars
Dreams, in guarded hearts

Piecing together the brokenness

We are patient with ourselves
Tender with our quickened heartbeats
We pick up the shards,

Not too rough to cut,

We put the hope back together again,
And make a new work of art
As we piece together newness,

We create a sculpture -

One with bright colors of
Persistence, strength -
Patterns of courage and kindness

A masterpiece of healed brokenness,
Birthing something whole.

Breakthrough

Over the harbor,
Right by the skyline,
Past the modern jungle of lights -

I see a breakthrough of beauty
It sparks creativity deep within me
Whirling inside my chest,

Stirring a desire to keep going
To do my very best
To stay afloat on the boats that

Pass by

To keep my head out the window of a tram
To stay watching the lights sparkle

the night sky

This is dreaming with my eyes wide open
Inspired by the city that goes without stopping

Pausing on behalf of it

Resting to slow the constant movement
Carving time to understand the meaning behind

The doing, spinning, moving

There’s a breakthrough of light that pours
When time is made for it

I hope you find yours
Beyond the city lights

In a space that has no time
Without divide,
Simply a chance to create
To be

To find
